The value of a belt rank is directly proportional to the value assigned to it by the dojo instructor. If the instructor expects less of the rank, the rank is worth less. If the instructor expects more, the rank is worth more. Instructors who give away ranks for their own benefit are only hurting their students. Those who make their students earn a rank at once increase the value of that rank. Trust me, a brown or black belt in one dojo is sometimes worth less than a yellow belt in another dojo. Go and learn what that means.
